Making an Edwardian Bum Pad

MAKING AN EDWARDIAN BUM PAD 

 

Hello, folks!! How are you? 

 
 

So, this is my 1st post for real talking about making a piece of an Edwardian undergarment, a bum pad. I have a project, a big project for myself which is doing a whole Edwardian garment to wear on my birthday this year.  It’s gonna  be my 1st historical project and I’m so excited! I already bought some of the things – lace, trims, fabrics. I’m truly excited to wear! Can’t wait to show you the process here on my blog and also on  my Instagram (fernandacarmo123, follow me to see more things about me and this project). 


 Today I’m making a bum pad which It can be done with linen, cambric, baptiste, cotton, you choose what to use. I chose cotton that I had here in my house because of my college – I'm a fashion designer student btw if you don’t know. 

I didn’t have a pattern for this but there’s a lot on the internet and there’s this one from 1929 which is really good and free that you can see and make it by yourself.

Okay, let’s get started. 


You’ll need: 

A fabric of your choice 

Thread 

Needle 

Thimble (if you’re doing handsewing) 

Sewing machine 

Pencil 

A ruler 

A pattern 

Twill tape or bias tape

Filling (can be leftover fabric or polyester)

 

 

  • 1- First you take your pattern and put it on top of the fabric and you will draw the shape. 

  • 2- Then cut where you marked. 

  • 3- After you close one part and leave the other part open so you can put the filling. 

  • 4- Also draw the lines of the direction that you’ll sew later. 

 

  • 5- About the filling, you can put the polyester one or leftover fabrics. 

I used polyester. 

 

  • 6- After that I sew on those lines and added the bias tape to close and be my cord to close around my waist. 

 

  • 7-Sew everthing.

  • Your Edwardian bum pad is done!!

Edwardian Gown

 Hello, friends! Hope you're having a great saturday! Today is the last post related to my birthday project, which was inspired by the Edwardian era, so today it is about the dress that is actually a skirt, blouse and belt. I bought the mold from blacksnailpatterns, which has very good patterns, I highly recommend it! At first I was going to buy pure silk crepe de chine but it was very expensive, so I decided to buy another type of crepe, ana crepe, I bought 7.5m.
