Edwardian Corset Cover

Hello guys, hope you're good! Today's post is related to the corset cover I made for myself. I used a guide pattern that I found on the internet from a shirtwaist and that helped me make the corset cover.   This image is already showing how the mold should look, I needed some measurements. Since this pattern shows half the front and half the back, you need the following measurements: 1) measure from the middle of the waist to the side. 2) measure the length of the shoulder to the tip of the shoulder. 3) measure a part of the armhole, as shown in the photo. 4) measure from the shoulder to the neck to the height you want from the neckline. Having these measurements you will be drawing on paper and trying to match the pattern, you will basically just add your measurements. You will need a ruler and the French curve to make the armhole and neckline. * It may be that it gets big or small, just make the changes while seeing your body. The fabric I used was cambric but you can use lin...

Edwardian Corset

Hiii guys, how are you? Today I'm making an Edwardian Corset using Black Snail Patterns "Edwardian Straight Front Corset". I really liked it, if you are a beginner like me, you will probably like it too, as the instructions are very easy to follow. 1) I took my measurements and found them in the mold. 2) it is necessary to make a mock up before making the final corset. 3) the mock up was too big, so I reduced the mold and then I could cut the mold on the final fabric. 4) I used twill, because I didn't find where I live here in Brazil the coutil fabric that would be ideal. 5)Put everything together and sewed. 6) The busk I had to ask for in São Paulo because where I live it doesn't sell. 7) If you want a video teaching how to put the busk, I can do it. 8) I put the grosgrain ribbon at the waist line. 9) I put satin ribbon in the channels of the plastic whalebones. 10) After putting the plastic bones in place 11) I fitted the eyelets. 12) And finally the cord. The ...

Haute Couture Project

Hello everybody, hope you're having a lovely day so far. Before I start, I would like to ask you if you are enjoying the posts? Is there anything you would like to know more about? As you know I'm a fashio design student and in sewing class the teacher asked us to make a garment inspired by a haute couture brand using techniques that they use and needed to be done by hand.  Techniques would be: tressê, pleats, ruffles, embroidery etc.  I chose Dior and thought about making a dress with a cape. I chose a plaid cotton fabric that looks like tweed, I think it matched the brand and what I wanted.  I made a long skirt with pleats, a blouse and all this can become a dress, in addition to I made a cape using the same fabric, creating this look. I loved it, I intend to recreate soon! What did you think of this look? Would you wear it too? Tell me! This post was very short but I promise that the next one will be much bigger. Is there anything related to vintage or histo...

Edwardian Fashion

Hello!! Hope you're having a great day so far. Today I decided to talk about the Edwardian fashion for a bit, so let's get started! First of all it's known as Belle Époque  in France (1890-1914) and Edwardian Era in England (1901-1910), I'll be focusing on Edwardian Era. This period is known for it's luxury, extravagance, large hats, embroidery. Queen Victoria (fig. 1) died in 1901 and her son, Edward VII (fig. 2) became the king. He was known for being extravagant, for having many lovers, and this contributed a lot to the fashion of the time. At that time, the ideal body was to have a slim waist, wider hips and full breasts (monobosom). To achieve this, a woman would wear a corset, int the time, this corset was known as "health corset" because it was different from the hourglass corset from the victorian era that compressed the abdomen, forcing it downward. So wearing the Edwardian corset a woman could achieve the silhuette of the time, the S-shaped cur...

Edwardian Bust Improver

Heeeey, hope you're having a lovely day! Saturday means new post here! Today I'm going to show you how I made my bust improver which is part of the underwear, contributing to the silhouette of the time. It increases the bust, making the person have a higher bust, looking like a pigeon breast.  This picture shows the differece when you're with the bum pad above the skirt and the bust improver, makes the right silhouette. Woman’s Bust Improver (Falsies) , England, circa 1900, image from LACMA I printed the pattern made by Cat's costumery on her blog and she also made the bust improver on her youtube channel, here's her video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leW0dItyCzI . So, let's get started: You'll need: Fabric of your choice, I used cotton. Thimble ( if you're doing hansewing) Thread Needle Trims (lace) Filling ( polyester or leftover fabric) bias tape 1-  I put the pattern on the folded fabric. 2- So I cutted. 3- I drew circles where I should put the f...
